WinterStar includes powerful participatory classes and workshops, entertainment, an Earth Warrior Initiation Ritual, a village of cozy cottages with nightly theme parties, and spiritual transformation 

SPEAKERS, WORKSHOP AND RITUAL PRESENTERS INCLUDE: 

* HALIM EL-DABH, a Professor Emeritus of African Ethno-Musicology from Kent State University. He will share African Tribal Rituals and Rhythms 

* LAUREN RAINE a painter, sculptor, mask artist, performance artist, author,  choreographer and past Director of Rites of Passage Gallery, a Center for Transformative Arts, in Berkeley, California. She will speak on Tribal Masks and lead a hands-on mask-making workshop. 

* SIDIAN MORNING STAR JONES, the grandson of the Native American Medicine Man and author Rolling Thunder. He will discuss the Shamanism of Rolling Thunder and Personal Mythology.  

* TANNIN SCHWARTZSTEIN has dedicated a significant part of her life in pursuit of various spiritual arts both privately and professionally. She will discuss Modern Tribalism and Polyamory. 

* REV. IVAN STANG, the author of The Book of the SubGenius, High Weirdness by Mail, Three Fisted Tales of "Bob", Revelation X and The Bobliographon. He will pull out all stops and explain why everything is so screwed up. 

* DENITA BENYSHEK, a doctoral student in the Psychology of Consciousness and Spirituality at Saybrook Graduate School. Her research is on the contemporary artist as shaman. She will speak on Slavic and Alaskan Shamanism, and the Artist as Shaman.  

* IAN CORRIGAN has been teaching, learning, singing and playing in the American Neopagan movement since 1976, served as ADF’s first Chief Liturgist and as Archdruid, and is a fully ordained priest in ADF  

* LIAFAL, M. Ed, a former Senior Druid of Stone Creed Grove. She is a professional educator and a Priestess of the Traditional Craft, past Vice Archdruid for ADF, ad a past officer of the Ohio local Covenant of the Goddess, 

* JOY WEDMEDYK (Olorisha Omi Lasa) is an initiated priestess in Regla de Ocha, an Ifa tradition commonly referred to as Santeria. She will speak on Santeria and Ancestor Worship. 

* A.J. GOOCH has been playing the Australian Didgeridoo for seven years, is an organizer of a weekly Drum Jam Circle, the Senior Druid of Stone Creed Grove, and a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism. He will demonstrate the didgeridoo and discuss its spiritual significance. 

* RON SLABE has been a seeker of unusual sounds for over twenty years. Using electronics and found objects, he weaves diverse influences into a dense sonic web designed to invoke a variety of states.  

* THE NIAGARA VOODOO SHRINE has served both the Loa and Orisha nation of spirits since 1999. They will lead a ceremony of initiation into a modern Tribal Warrior tradition. 

ENTERTAINMENT ON THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:  

* THE DRAGON RITUAL DRUMMERS, a Canadian drumming troupe which began in 1999, consisting of members of the Niagara Pagan Men's circle. 

* PAPA ASSANE M'BAYE & TAM TAM MAGIC, a percussion ensemble, made up of Senegalese drummers who have been performing authentic West African rhythms in Northeast United States for over eight years. 

* THE BARDO BROTHERS, high-energy musicians and Bards  

* The Film: MODERN TRIBALISM – a documentary about the resurgence of humanity's oldest and most intense rituals.   

THE GENERAL WINTERSTAR SCHEDULE is as follows: 

THURSDAY 2/12/09: On-site registration for the WinterStar Symposium opens at 6pm in the Hospitality House (Cottage 17).  At 7:30 PM, the event starts with the Welcome Wagon Pot-Luck Party, where we’ll be drummin’ and jammin’ late into the night and greeting the late-night arrivals. A great opportunity to make connections early in the program! 

FRIDAY 2/13/09: Merchant set-up begins at 9 AM on Friday. The Opening Circle is held at 1:30,  Classes and workshops run from 2:00 - 6:15.   After the dinner break, the evening program will begin with entertainment at 8 PM  Cabin parties will follow late into the night. 

SATURDAY 2/14/09: Workshops and classes continue 9:30 AM until the 6:15 Dinner break.  The evening program begins at 8:30 including an Earth Warrior Initiation Ritual, and is followed by cabin parties, including: * The Folk-Rock Cabin * The SpaceJam Cabin - Ron Slabe & friends; ambient video animation by Rev. Ivan Stang * The All Night Drum-Jam Cabin with Dennis & Linda Murphy, The Dragon Ritual Drummers, and drummers from the WinterStar community.   

SUNDAY 2/15/09: 

Classes begin at 9:30, then we'll break for lunch (and Cabin checkout), attend the Closing Circle at 1:30, and take our last opportunity to visit our merchants and for warm farewells.

* I-77 South to Bolivar/Zoar Exit #93

* Turn left on St. Rt. 212 East.

* Follow 212 for approx. 16 miles until you come to the flashing caution light.

*Turn left onto Rt. 542 and follow for 3 miles,

* The cabins are on the left hand side.

* The lodge is on the right hand side.

Driving Directions from the Columbus, OH Area:

* I-70 East to I-77 North.

* Take New Philadelphia Exit #81.

* Turn right on Rt. 39 East.

* Follow 39 all the way to Sherrodsville.

* Turn left on St. Rt. 212 just past Sherrodsville.

* Go to flashing caution light and turn right on Rt. 542.

* Follow 542 for 3 miles.

* The cabins are on the left hand side.

* The lodge is on the right hand side.

* Take Rt. 22 West into Ohio and follow to Rt 43

* Take Rt 43 North into Carrollton.

* Go straight through Carrollton to St. Rt. 39.

* Follow 39 through into Dellroy.

* Go straight through the traffic light on 542 South

* 3 miles ahead

* The cabins are on the right hand side.
